What does best care mean to me?

As a District Nurse, best care to me means providing patient centred care for people in the safety and comfort of their own homes.  Always being respectful and compassionate toward the patients, their families, and carers. I am always appreciative that they allow us into their homes to provide this care.  I always encourage patients to be proactive in looking after their own health needs and accessing other health services to their benefit and refer to the multidisciplinary team as required.

Working within the Covid pandemic has had a heightened emphasis on infection control for both staff and the vulnerable patients that we care for. I have been appreciative that we have been supported from a management perspective, but I will appreciate the day when we don’t have to wear N95’s and waterproof gowns into patient’s homes!
