Helen Dobson

Helen Dobson has been a consumer with Western Health since 2017 and believes that clear and effective communication among staff and importantly, with patients, family and carers is key to Best Care

Best care in Helen’s view is about “quality of care for patients in a timely and safe manner.  Best care is consumer focused – inclusive of specific patient needs, while offering and respecting choice. Best care is evident when staff and consumers work together”.

Helen is currently on Western Health’s Safe Care Committee.  Amongst other committees and projects Helen has been involved in, she was selected to participate in an innovative training program called Collaborative Pairs.  The training program involved a consumer and healthcare staff member learning together and from each other about removing barriers to working together.

Helen’s consumer role has been informed by her training as a nurse and midwife, Director of Nursing in aged care, and being a carer for her husband.
