COMPLIMENT OF THE WEEK – 15 October 2021

Every single staff member at Western Health – either directly or indirectly, whether clinical staff, non-clinical staff or volunteer - makes a contribution every day to supporting the provision of Best Care and the best experience for our patients. Compliments are real examples of our staff providing Best Care. Through our 'compliment of the week' we acknowledge staff who successfully translate our Vision of delivering Best Care into day-to-day behaviours.

Our vision of Best Care is to provide person-centred, co-ordinated, right and safe care for every patient, every time, everywhere.  Delivering Best Care within the complexity of our health system is not always easy.  We would like to recognise the provision of Best Care by the Sunshine Hospital Vaccination Hub, and we share the words of praise from a fellow Healthcare Professional about the care their son received.

To the Western Public Health Unit,

I just wanted to feedback regarding our positive experience yesterday through the vaccination hub.   Myself and my 23 year old son (who has Autism and never goes to the doctor) found the staff extremely caring and the process very easy.

It was the first dose for my son, Jacob, and his anxiety was minimal.  We were separated, but the staff were wonderful with him.

In addition, I would like to point out RN Melina.  I saw her approach many patients, talking, reassuring and ensuring they knew what was happening and if they had any questions.  Then, before her shift ended, she asked all the nurses if they needed anything else before she left.  I would want a nurse like her in my unit.  Her compassion for all patients and staff remind us all why we became nurses.

Well done on a fantastic and compassionate team and  streamlined processes.

Kind regards,

Jacob’s Mum
