Our vision of Best Care is to provide person-centred, co-ordinated, right and safe care for every patient, every time, everywhere. Delivering Best Care within the complexity of our health system is not always easy. We would like to recognise the provision of Best Care by staff working in the Sunshine Emergency Department and Ward 1A, Sunshine Hospital. We share these words sent to us by Mick, in appreciation of the care provided during his recent admission.
Dear Western Health,
I wish to thank the doctors, nurses, and other staff who collectively made my recent experience at your hospital as easy and successful as it could be.
I attended the Emergency Department on 14 February 2021 at 6.15am with what I thought was either food poisoning or appendicitis. I saw the Emergency Doctor at around 8.00am. After going through some symptoms and some more rib prodding, she diagnosed a likely severe gall bladder issue. Within 10 minutes I was moved to a day bed area, and shortly after taken to X-ray. Results were inconclusive, so off we went for a CT scan. After coming back at around 12.30pm, I was told it was clear there was a serious issue, and I would be moved to a surgical ward -1A .
After the surgery, I was rather hungry and the nurses went to great trouble to get some fresh sandwiches and an instant coffee. With regular 2-hour blood checks and general monitoring, the nurses and support staff were terrific in offering water or coffee, despite the big workload they had.
My surgery and recovery have been more than I could hope for, and I attribute it to the excellent care I received from the staff at the Sunshine Hospital. From the Emergency nurses and doctor, to the nurses and doctors in the surgical department, and let’s never forget the hilarious orderlies and the X-Ray and CT scan professionals.
I really appreciate the fact that I have access to such a high-quality organisation of professionals and such modern facilities.
